The Pat Price Project is launched, to help raise money for rugby league causes

She was described as the heart and soul of Widnes’ fan base and was a familiar sight to many  over the years. Pat Price always sat in the same seat, and when she turned 77, the whole crowd sang ‘happy birthday’ to her.

Sadly, Pat died in 2014, but she is remembered with great fondness on the terraces at the old Naughton Park. For us, Pat sums up what it is to be  a great supporter of rugby league. She always cheered the team on, home and away, and also volunteered her services to help out behind the scenes,  just like many other devoted female fans all over the country.

So we have decided to name our fundraising activities after Pat. Each year we will choose a cause that will be our Pat Price Project, and any money we raise during our events will go towards our chosen project. We are honoured to have the support of Pat’s family, and we hope that our wider RL family will get behind us too.

Sure Move of Widnes have kindly kicked off our campaign by sponsoring the Pat Price Project, and we began our fundraising at the Rugby League Writers Annual Dinner, with a whip round among the journalists…£91.50 in the pot already.
