Anyone who follows league in depth will know that when it comes to guidance and motivation, John Kear is in a class of his own. He led Sheffield Eagles to a legendary giant-slaying when they beat the much-fancied Wigan to the Challenge Cup title in 1998. Seven years later he returned with Hull FC to beat Leeds by a single point. He knows how to breed a winning mentality.
It was hardly surprising then that the Wakefield Trinity women’s squad turned out in numbers in the cold and rain to take part in a master class led by Kear. It was a meticulously planned hour-long session at Sharlston Rovers, aimed at getting the players to exercise their playing brains as well as their muscles.
